Only very special horses can become a Rainbow horse. To be a part of lessons at Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center, a horse must possess the innate qualities of patience, steadiness, and unconditional obedience.
All our horses are sweet-natured and compliant. We have veterinarians and farriers that work with them to ensure they are sound and in good health.
Rainbow horses are carefully evaluated and trained before they are allowed to participate in any lessons. Our instructors, leaders, and side walkers work with them extensively, and they are methodically introduced to wheelchairs, walkers, canes, a special mounting ramp, and other equipment that our students might use. Our veterinarians and farrier ensure their health and well-being.
Rainbow’s beautiful herd of eight hardworking and loyal horses make the therapy we provide possible. The annual cost to care for one of our horses is approximately $5400, which covers hay, grain, farrier visits, supplements and medication, among other things.
You can support a Rainbow horse with a contribution of any amount. An annual adoption fee may be paid in monthly or quarterly increments.
Sponsors who adopt a horse for a full year will receive:
A plaque bearing your name on our mini barn
A framed picture of you and your horse in the Rainbow viewing area
